Tuesday Trailer Roundup!

Happy Tuesday everyone! We’re back with a whole new batch of trailers and there’s a bunch so let’s dive right in!

Ayla

Well color me interested.  This is a really well put together trailer that manages to build up the intensity and curiosity but swelling the music, quickening the pace of the editing, and by starting with benign shots of people and slowly sliding into WTF territory. Looks like a good one!

Legend of the Naga Pearls

Oh man this looks spectacular.  The action looks awesome, the set and production design looks fantastic and I feel like this is a live action anime and not just because this is an Asian made film. The story and the look of this movie just screams ANIME to me and I am totally on board with that.  Also the main character instantly reminded me of Sokka from Avatar: The Last Airbender

The Persian Connection

I liked the beginning of this trailer and then it managed to completely lose all of my interest in the last minute.  I don’t buy the lead actor as he doesn’t seem to naturally fit this role, his voice especially threw me off, and the action seems cheap and derivative of movies I’ve already seen.  This one isn’t doing it for me.

Wolf Warrior 2

I didn’t know that there was a Wolf Warrior 1 so I already feel like I’m missing something here.  As for this trailer, it feels as generic as an action movie can get.  We don’t get much in the way of story points so I’m really not sure what all the action is accomplishing.  Not feeling this one either.

Goon 2: Last of the Enforcers

Unlike Wolf Warrior, I am at least aware of the first Goon movie as I’ve scrolled past it many a time on Netflix.  This looks like it could be a fun hockey comedy.  I like Seann William Scott and I love TJ Miller.  If nothing else, this might get my to finally watch the first Goon.

The Glass Castle (Trailer 2)

So this is an interesting one because I hate this trailer but this movie looks great.  The trailer is super generic and the voice over is hella annoying.  There was another trailer for this movie that was a lot better. Go watch that one.

68 Kill

Man this looks like a dirty, raunchy, grimy dark comedy that shades into horror movie territory.  This could be great one but it could also fall flat on it’s face, I hope it’s the former.

Unleashed

Awww this looks super sweet.  Like give you a cavity sweet.  This could make for a fun date night movie. One word on the trailer though, it seems to have shown the entire movie. In the last 10-15 seconds I feel like I saw the climax of the movie.

The Good Catholic

I love John C. McGinley and Danny Glover and it honestly feels like they might outshine the other two main cast members by a mile.  What we see of them in this trailer is fantastic, the rest however feels like a Lifetime movie of the week.

Pilgrimage

Well this has to be the weirdest Spider-Man/Punisher team up ever……  That’s it.  That joke is all I got out of this trailer.  Moving on….

The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature

Generic kids movie is generic.  I chuckled at the very end but that’s about it.  I won’t be taking my daughter to this one.

American Assassin (Trailer 3)

This being the third trailer for this movie I’m already familiar with the plot and tone that it’s going for.  Later trailers like this generally strive to give you more excitement or tease a new piece of plot detail or action set piece to get you even more excited.  I’m not sure I’m any more excited than I was to see this one after seeing this trailer but I’m still very much on board.

First Kill

I am a sucker for Bruce Willis action movies so I am probably higher on this trailer than most people.  The story looks compelling and the action looks at least decent. Might not see it in theaters but I’ll catch it on rental of VOD.

Darkest Hour

Gary Oldman is damn chameleon, I swear it.  The man just sinks into any role and this one looks to be one of his best.  Being an American, I am pretty well versed in how and why the USA got involved in World War II but it will be fantastic to see how Britain handled themselves in the lead up to World War II.  This one looks great.

The Layover

I have the feeling after watching this trailer that what we see is what we’re going to get.  Cheap boob jokes, cat fighting, and some slapstick comedy.  This looks like it could be a fun one.

Birth of the Dragon

I have to confess something,  as much of a movie lover as I am, I have never seen a Bruce Lee movie……  Yea I know…..  so given that, this trailer doesn’t do much for me.  The fighting looks incredibly choreographed and the story seems compelling but overall this movie doesn’t interest me.  I’m sure others will love it.

Women Who Kill

I can’t tell if this film want’s to be a dark comedy or a thriller or if that’s the draw of it.  Like many other movies this looks like it has potential – a woman who loves to investigate female serial killers, maybe falls in love with a female serial killer.  Could be interesting if they manage to find a balance between the dark comedy and thriller tones.

Naked

There was a teaser trailer for this a while back and that got me interested in this movie and this full trailer has me all the way on board for this.  This looks like a great take on the Groundhog Day looping trope and Marlon Wayans seems to be a perfect casting.  Netflix is very hit and miss with their original movies but this one looks like a hit.

The Incredible Jessica James

Meh, maybe.  It looks funny but I don’t think I’m the right audience for it.  It’s on Netflix though so I’ll give it a go.

Bushwick

Man this looks like what the Red Dawn remake wanted to be.  I wasn’t even alive when the original Red Dawn was released but I feel like this movie does now what that movie did then.  Capture one of the nations greatest fears and put it on screen.  Back then it was a Russian invasion, now it’s martial law and the people versus the government.  I’m definitely interested in this one.

Karate Kill

WTF did I just watch….  That has to be one of the more bizarre trailers I’ve seen in a good long while.  I want to be interested but I just don’t know….

A Wrinkle in Time

Ho. Lee. Shit. This looks fucking spectacular. I’ve been meaning to read this book for a while but after seeing this trailer, I just might wait to read it until after the movie hits.  While the may sound like sacrilege to all the readers out there, this cinephile loves to go to the theater for the experience of being completely enveloped by a movie and this film looks like it will do just that.  Kudos to Ava DuVernay for this one.

Blade Runner 2049 (Trailer 3)

This movie looks absolutely gorgeous, every frame in this trailer is beautiful.  As for the movie itself, I really really really want this to blow me out of the water. I’ve only seen the original Blade Runner once and it didn’t hit quite as hard as I wanted it to.  I need to watch it again in preparation for the sequel because I want to catch every little detail in what looks to be a true scifi epic.

Crown Heights

Man this is a powerful trailer to what looks like a powerful movie.  I am unfamiliar with this story but I hope that this movie does it justice because the story looks to be a very important one that everyone should know.

Wind River

Oh man does this look good. I love noir style crime dramas and this looks to be an astounding one.  Elizabeth Olsen and Jeremy Renner look on point! Can’t wait to check this out.

That’s it for this week folks! Come on back next week for another Tuesday Trailer Roundup!
